“Speak Poet speak!”
Tell us something Say it all for us since we won’t say nothin
 Here!
We built you a pedestal Stand on it
Take it! Take it! Though you didn’t ask for it
Be our muse Our stringless puppet
You move boulders with substance We shrug our shoulders, say fuck it…
With you we’re infatuated But call it love
Right now we’re impressed But later we’ll judge
And glare Judge you for acting like you’re so high up Forgetting we put you there
You denied our pedestal but we insisted and begged Until the day we can’t reach you So we start chopping at the legs…
Hoping you fall Greatness and all
Bleed like the rest of us Cry and die in a ball
 So down you come
 Twirling, whirling, and scared
 No wait!
You are twirling and whirling and dancing in air!
And when you hit the asphalt you neither cried nor bled
We huddled over you and wept As we ourselves bled
Our envy, jealousy, and dumb-ass-ness made us sick and unwell in the head
Oh Poet Oh Poet Oh Poet Oh Poet
As we looked down at “you” In your face we saw all of our faces
Only then could we tell We hadn’t killed you
 We had only killed ourselves…

“Speak Poet speak!”

Tell us something
Say it all for us since we won’t say nothin

Here!

We built you a pedestal
Stand on it

Take it! Take it!
Though you didn’t ask for it

Be our muse
Our stringless puppet

You move boulders with substance
We shrug our shoulders, say fuck it…

With you we’re infatuated
But call it love

Right now we’re impressed
But later we’ll judge

And glare
Judge you for acting like you’re so high up
Forgetting we put you there

You denied our pedestal but we insisted and begged
Until the day we can’t reach you
So we start chopping at the legs…

Hoping you fall
Greatness and all

Bleed like the rest of us
Cry and die in a ball

So down you come

Twirling, whirling, and scared

No wait!

You are twirling and whirling and dancing in air!

And when you hit the asphalt you neither cried nor bled

We huddled over you and wept
As we ourselves bled

Our envy, jealousy, and dumb-ass-ness made us sick and unwell in the head

Oh Poet
Oh Poet
Oh Poet
Oh Poet

As we looked down at “you”
In your face we saw all of our faces

Only then could we tell
We hadn’t killed you

We had only killed ourselves…
